1. The Glamazon Party Go-er- This year, this will not be me. I am leaving my glitter at home and opting for a little less of the crowd/drink spilling on me at midnight/where did I put my purse/where’s my friend thing from years past. However, if YOUUUUU are going to a glitzy glam party, in my humble opinion, you should wear something like this. I mean, THOSE SHOES!??!?!?

2. The Cozy Countdown- If you’re getting all cozy this NYE with your hubby & babies (or maybe it’s just you, yourself and your lover-NETFLIX), I have the perfect fit for you. These boots are the most versatile pair I have seen in EVER, and little track pants are so chic/comfortable, if you’re a Mom this is CRUCIAL. The clutch is optional but let’s be honest, it really ties the whole thing together. ;)

3. The Private Party- More my vibe this NYE… Let’s pop some champs, eat some apps and make plans for 2015 bb’s! By the way, I LIVE for these pants. Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset We all have routines every day.

I happen to have many that help me create happiness, balance and productivity in my daily life.

Every day starts out with a cup of green tea (more on this later).

Mid-day I have a juice (remember this bomb recipe?? Not just for hangovers, btw!)

After my workout in the evening I make a smoothie.

Every. Dizzam. Day.

Just like my juice ingreds, I always keep these smoothie ingredients on hand. Like I previously stated, this is a daily habit, so when I get low on any of these items it’s time for a trip to the grocery store or farmer’s market.

Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset(Coconut for days…)

All of the ingredients in this smoothie recipe are SUPER healthy and delicious. BONUS: It fills me up before dinner so I don’t eat as much. BOW CHICA WOW WOW.

OK. So, here’s the deets:

Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset(All the best)

Ingredients: Coconut water, a splash of Almond Milk (Unsweetened, Original flavor), 1 Organic Apple, 1 Organic Banana, 2 HUGE handfuls of Organic Spinach/Kale (Costco sells the mix- BTW), Organic Raspberries (or any other berries), a splash of Gogi Berries (ie: 1/4 cup-ish), a bigger splash of coconut flakes (NON-Sweetened, just the real deal), 10 raw/organic almonds, a scoop of Coconut Oil, 1 tbsp of Chia Seeds, ice as desired.

Ok, this seems like a lot.

BUT WAIT, it’s not.

If you are new to the smoothie game, I recommend starting off slow! Get the basics: Greens and fruit (bananas, berries, and apples). You can go sans coconut water/almond milk (some peeps use regular milk/Lactaid/Coconut milk- totally your preference).  Basically, the more in love (obsessed) I’ve become with making smoothies, the more I add to elevate the taste and nutritional power. Here’s a dose of what you’re looking at with my go-to smoothie:

Nutrition:

Coconut water is high vitamins C, Riboflavin and Calcium. Good source of fiber and low in cholesterol! I use this one.

Almond Milk is a fantastic substitute for milk if you are lactose intolerant (many, many people have lactose issues, including muah). Almond milk is also high in omega 3 fats so it’s heart healthy and contains no saturated fat or cholesterol! Almond milk is also high in antioxidants (fights the increase of free radicals in the body, aka fights cancer and aging!) Almond milk is nutritionally dense, low calorie, and contains no animal products. I use this one.

Apples are the bomb, more here.

Bananas are kind of my obsession of all obsessions. I’ve been known to eat 2-3 per day, wait what?! WHY?! Because bananas are high in potassium (potassium is SUPER important for keeping your blood pressure low and your heart healthy). More on my banana love here, with all the nutrition facts!

Spinach is one of the most important parts to this recipe, as it is extremely nutritious and important to your health. Spinach contains anti-inflammatory properties (inflammation can lead to various forms of cancer, and irregularities in your body), antioxidants and spinach helps maintain bone health with it’s wealth of Vitamin K. Plus, spinach is high in fiber, helping your body stay on track with digestion (good digestion is crucial for maintaining weight, fighting cancer, etc etc etc).

(How cute is my little succulent??!)

Goji Berries are a bomb superfood that are high in antioxidants, low in fat, high in fiber and have a high concentration of beta-carotene- necessary for healthy, glowing skin. I use these.

Coconut Flakes are what I boast as my “secret ingredient” to friends/fam when they ask, “how does this taste so good?!?” Coconut flakes are inexpensive and last awhile (I generally use one bag each 2-3 months), because you only use a little at a time. They are relatively high in calories/fat, but make a huge difference in the taste and absorption of the goji berries and other berries used in the smoothie. Coconut flakes contain carbs and protein, which provide energy and produce lean muscle mass (carbohydrates are not a bad word, they are mucho necessary for your body). Coconut flakes also contain Iron and Phosphorous, the combination of the berries (rich in Vitamin C) in the smoothie with the coconut flakes helps your body to absorb the most amount of iron in the flakes. I use these.

So basically, this is a bomb combo of delicious ingredients, that you can keep on hand to make the best smoothie ever.

I must ask- what do you put in your go-to smoothie recipe???

I used to have this roommate, one of my besties, who had the most amazing wardrobe you could ever want/need/love.  Whenever we went out it was a full fledged event.  We’d make a cocktail, put on music, and run like little happy babies around our adorable flat, comparing fits/sharing pieces/hair/makeup, basically the best time ever.  Priceless s*it right there!  I look back on these memories with such sweetness because you totally take those moments for granted when you’re in them.

Where we lived during this time had gorgeous warm summers and beautiful cool/rainy winters.  In the fall it’s sweater weather, and totally necessary to have many jacket options.  So today the top five is being taken over with my top five picks for coats you NEED to proceed into fall/winter.

Inspired by my bestie & me.

Holla!

1. Double Or Nothing Convertible Trench

Thur1There’s something so incredibly haunting about this coat. It seems so lightweight but at such a traditionally heavy length.  When I was little, my Mama had a coat just like this that she’d wear only when it was pouring outside. It was a London Fog, a total bad@%s coat. I wonder if she still has it…

Buy here.

2. BB Dakota Finleigh Wool Jacket

thur2Every woman should have a few black jacket options.  You can pull this baby out for cooler weather days, it’s structured to be perfect for work over an easy shift dress and great for a night out, over your favorite sexy LBD.

Buy here.

3. Kimchi Blue Ruffle Tier Chiffon Jacket

thur3This is obvi a lighter weight option, I’m not even sure we can safely 100% call it a “jacket,” but for today- it’s a damn jacket.  This jacket is ethereal and beautiful, pair with a simple body con dress and a pair of amazing heels for a look that can only be described as perfection.

Buy here.

4. Free People Military Stripe Peplum Jacket

thur4This is what dreams are made of, babes.  A military style peplum in an amazing wool/linen blend. I can’t, I really don’t think I can. I personally love how this jacket is styled in the photo with a button down linen top (little cleav never hurt anybody), and some gorgeous riding boots. I think this is a necessary addition to my life (like, asap). ;)

Buy here.

5. Free People Slouchy Boyfriend Jacket

thur5This jack makes me want to go back to college. Is that weird? No, but really.. Can I just get up in the morning, slink over to a warm coffee shop on a cool morning, eat my oat scone, and browse my notes for today’s lecture, in this jacket, forever?? I’m thinking yes.

Buy here.

What are your must have jackets for fall/winter?? Spill the beans-babies!

Happy Wednesday, babes!

Today I would like to introduce you all to my girl, Ashley of the Health & Fitness blog Sanely Skinny.  Ashley’s fitness story is incredible, like you have to check it out, and if you look at her now, you’ll pretty much die (she’s perf right?!) Ashley & I recently got together to bring you a double post for this beautiful summer Wednesday, we both answered need-to-know questions about our fitness stories, what inspires us and what keeps us in the game. Check out my interview on Ashley’s blog, here!

Enjoy!

Ashley1

-Introduction-

Hi All! My name is Ashley Buckley and I am from sunny San Diego, California. I have grown up here my whole life, but this coming fall I will be attending college at CU Boulder and studying Journalism and Mass Communications. I decided to study this major thanks to my blog/baby, SanelySkinny.net. I began this blog about two years ago to share my weight loss story and to help teens and young adult adapt healthy habits in order to live a more fulfilling, fun, healthy life.

-What is your fitness story?

My fitness story began way back in 8th grade. I had grown up playing basketball thanks to my height of 5’9. I would play on my school’s team, but in 8th grade I joined a traveling team in my county and that I guess is where my fitness/ weight loss began. After a few weeks of practices and games, I started to notice a difference in how my clothes fit and I decided to step on the scale and noticed I had lost about 10 pounds without even dieting! After the season ended, I did not want to regain the weight I had lost, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and continue to exercise. I would religiously go to step classes (flashback to the 90’s!) with my mom every morning during the summer going into my freshman year of high school. Along with attending classes, I began tracking my calories with the app Lose It. For that entire summer that was my life; workout and eat the right amount of calories. This continued for a majority of my freshman year as well until I went from 200 pounds to a toooooo slim 120. I have regained some of the weight because for my 5’9 frame 120 pounds is way to slim. I never regret the work I had to put in to lose 80 pounds and am beyond happy to say that I did it!

-What is your advice to someone just starting out on their fitness journey?

My advice for anyone starting a fitness journey is to remember that nutrition is KEY to weight loss. I don’t care how many hours you spend in a gym, you need to eat right to see results. PERIOD. Cut out any processed crap in your diet. No chips, white bread/pasta, soda, or anything out of a plastic bag or can for just one week, and you will see a huge difference trust me! So even though I stress honing in on your nutrition for weight loss, you can’t sit around your house and expect to get results. Go for a 30 minute walk on the beach or take a group exercise class at your gym! Just move!

-What inspires you to live a healthy lifestyle?

What motivates me the most to live a healthy lifestyle is my weight loss. I absolutely LOVE how I feel when I finish a spin class, run, or workout. I also feel amazing when I eat healthy. I am also signed with two modeling agencies in Southern California so eating healthily and working out are an absolute MUST!

Ashley3-What does your weekly workout routine look like?

My weekly workout schedule changes frequently. Right now I am all about shorter, quicker workouts that incorporate full body movements and weights. I recently purchased T-25 and the 21 day Fix from Beach Body and I am LOVING the results! To be completely honest, I am a huge cardio junkie. But what I came to notice about cardio is that it really doesn’t change your body. Yes, cardio allows you to burn an insane amount of calories, but it just wasn’t giving me the results I desired. So I completely revamped my workout! Instead of logging 60 minutes on the spin bike 5-6 days a week, I now only do it about 3 times a week. On the other days, depending on how I am feeling, I will pop in one of my workout DVD’s and log in 25-60 minutes.

-Top 3 go to snacks:
100 pack of almonds (PORTION CONTROL IS KEY TO WEIGHT LOSS!)
Packet of beef jerky
Quest Bars <- these will change your life if you have a sweet tooth!

-How do you combat cravings? What is your favorite splurge?

I personally have the biggest sweet tooth on the planet. I love ice cream, brownies, cookies, you name it, but of course I can not indulge in these items daily. I think the number one thing that has helped me with my sweet tooth is Quest Bars. If you have never tried a Quest Bar, you are missin’ out. These bars literally taste like dessert, I kid you not. They have anywhere from 160-210 calories, hardly any carbs or sugar, and 20 grams of protein! They come in a variety of different flavors, Cinnamon Bun and Oreo to be my top two favorites, and are available online a www.Questnutrition.com, your local GNC or health store alike. Another piece of advice on curbing your cravings other than adding Quest bars into your diet, is to eat frequently throughout the day so that you NEVER go hungry. If you let yourself go too long without eating you are more likely to over eat at your next meal. I advise you eat 5-6 small meals throughout your day, spaced out between 2 to 3 hours. And as far as my favorite splurge goes, I looooove indulging in a California Burrito every now and then. Yes, I know I just said I had a huge sweet tooth, but my Quest Bars keep me happy and satisfied that I actually would probably choose them over ice cream.

-Any advice to readers who want to lose weight without “dieting”?

My advice for anyone who wants to lose weight with out dieting is to quit dieting all together. Begin viewing food as fuel, something your body NEEDS. Eating healthy is not a diet, it is a lifestyle. You can not live off of frozen diet meals and diet protein shakes. You need to feed your body properly whether you are trying to lose weight or not. Begin by cutting out all processed foods in your diet, and add in more fruits, veggies, and lean proteins. You will notice a difference immediately!

-Favorite way to relax after a stressful week?

My number one way to relax after a stressful week is to climb into my bed and binge watch Orange is the New Black or House of Cards.

-Number one Skinny Tip?
Sweat every morning before you eat anything! This will boost your metabolism for the rest of the day!
