I happen to have many that help me create happiness, balance and productivity in my daily life.
Every day starts out with a cup of green tea (more on this later).
Mid-day I have a juice (remember this bomb recipe?? Not just for hangovers, btw!)
After my workout in the evening I make a smoothie.
Every. Dizzam. Day.
Just like my juice ingreds, I always keep these smoothie ingredients on hand. Like I previously stated, this is a daily habit, so when I get low on any of these items it’s time for a trip to the grocery store or farmer’s market.
All of the ingredients in this smoothie recipe are SUPER healthy and delicious. BONUS: It fills me up before dinner so I don’t eat as much. BOW CHICA WOW WOW.
OK. So, here’s the deets:
Ingredients: Coconut water, a splash of Almond Milk (Unsweetened, Original flavor), 1 Organic Apple, 1 Organic Banana, 2 HUGE handfuls of Organic Spinach/Kale (Costco sells the mix- BTW), Organic Raspberries (or any other berries), a splash of Gogi Berries (ie: 1/4 cup-ish), a bigger splash of coconut flakes (NON-Sweetened, just the real deal), 10 raw/organic almonds, a scoop of Coconut Oil, 1 tbsp of Chia Seeds, ice as desired.
Ok, this seems like a lot.
BUT WAIT, it’s not.
If you are new to the smoothie game, I recommend starting off slow! Get the basics: Greens and fruit (bananas, berries, and apples). You can go sans coconut water/almond milk (some peeps use regular milk/Lactaid/Coconut milk- totally your preference). Basically, the more in love (obsessed) I’ve become with making smoothies, the more I add to elevate the taste and nutritional power. Here’s a dose of what you’re looking at with my go-to smoothie:
Almond Milk is a fantastic substitute for milk if you are lactose intolerant (many, many people have lactose issues, including muah). Almond milk is also high in omega 3 fats so it’s heart healthy and contains no saturated fat or cholesterol! Almond milk is also high in antioxidants (fights the increase of free radicals in the body, aka fights cancer and aging!) Almond milk is nutritionally dense, low calorie, and contains no animal products. I use this one.
Apples are the bomb, more here.
Bananas are kind of my obsession of all obsessions. I’ve been known to eat 2-3 per day, wait what?! WHY?! Because bananas are high in potassium (potassium is SUPER important for keeping your blood pressure low and your heart healthy). More on my banana love here, with all the nutrition facts!
Spinach is one of the most important parts to this recipe, as it is extremely nutritious and important to your health. Spinach contains anti-inflammatory properties (inflammation can lead to various forms of cancer, and irregularities in your body), antioxidants and spinach helps maintain bone health with it’s wealth of Vitamin K. Plus, spinach is high in fiber, helping your body stay on track with digestion (good digestion is crucial for maintaining weight, fighting cancer, etc etc etc).
(How cute is my little succulent??!)
Coconut Flakes are what I boast as my “secret ingredient” to friends/fam when they ask, “how does this taste so good?!?” Coconut flakes are inexpensive and last awhile (I generally use one bag each 2-3 months), because you only use a little at a time. They are relatively high in calories/fat, but make a huge difference in the taste and absorption of the goji berries and other berries used in the smoothie. Coconut flakes contain carbs and protein, which provide energy and produce lean muscle mass (carbohydrates are not a bad word, they are mucho necessary for your body). Coconut flakes also contain Iron and Phosphorous, the combination of the berries (rich in Vitamin C) in the smoothie with the coconut flakes helps your body to absorb the most amount of iron in the flakes. I use these.
So basically, this is a bomb combo of delicious ingredients, that you can keep on hand to make the best smoothie ever.
I must ask- what do you put in your go-to smoothie recipe???
